LMT has created a new cyber security solution
In response to the growing threat of cybercrime, including the hybrid warfare and disinformation techniques used in the Ukrainian war, the mobile operator and technology innovation company LMT has developed a new internet security solution – LMT Internet Guard, using the DNS firewall functionality of the Information Technology Security Incident Response Institution CERT.LV. The service will be available to LMT customers, protecting both computer and smart device users from malware, computer viruses, fraudulent websites and unwanted content..
“More than 300,000 different types of malware are created worldwide every day, and on average every thirteenth website poses a threat to its visitors. As technology advances, so does the ability of various fraudulent malware to make it harder for users to protect themselves and their data. From the very beginning, LMT has been working to provide technological support and ensuring public safety at the level of the state, urban infrastructure and secure communications, which is more important than ever in terms of the cyber security risks experienced in the context of the war in Ukraine. The new offer will be another step in strengthening the customers' sense of security,” says LMT President Juris Binde.
“Although it seems to many that they never visit dangerous sites or are not interesting for cybercriminals, absolutely every resident of Latvia is at risk of cyber attacks. In 2021, almost a third of Latvia's population suffered at least one cyber incident. The material damage caused in some cases exceeded 30,000 euros, but in total more than 14.5 million euros were scammed. The success of criminals depends to a large extent on how seriously a person takes such threats. Just as it goes without saying that the doors and gates of a house must be locked, all smart devices, including telephones and computers, must be equipped with security features. Technology can make a significant contribution to device and data protection by offering tools that easily integrate a variety of advanced solutions. An excellent example is LMT Internet Guard, which is constantly updated online with all the information on malicious websites and threats included in the DNS firewall provided by CERT.LV and NIC (top-level domain .lv registry administrator). protection,” emphasizes Baiba Kaškina, General Manager of CERT.LV.
LMT Internet Guard will protect devices from various viruses, fraudulent websites and unwanted content in applications, browsers and communication tools. The new service prevents the user from visiting a malicious website, by clicking on a link, banner, or ad, and it alerts the customer of a potentially dangerous site. Since the new service functions at network level, the user does not need to take any action, including downloading a special program or changing the settings of the phone (router). All smart devices – phones, tablets and computers – with any browser are tested in LMT network.
The new service not only protects against malware, but also allows you to restrict content, so it will be a useful assistant for parents. To apply the selected content filters – for specific websites or usage time limits – all you must do is log in to your My LMT account. There you’ll also get a full overview of the threats faced by all devices linked to your account. LMT Internet Guard is a service that can be connected by every LMT customer for the protection of their Internet via Handset or Internet for Home from 1.20 euros per month. Every number will be provided a one-time 30-day free trial before subscribing to the service.
