What is an IMEI code?

Like any individual has an identity number, a phone is also assigned a unique IMEI code by its manufacturer that allows recognizing this device in a mobile communications network.

IMEI code consists of a combination of 15 characters. This code is unique, and no two phones should have the same IMEI number. Nevertheless, there have been some cases when phones have had the same IMEI code. This may occur, when an IMEI code of one phone is illegally saved in several other phones though Cabinet Regulations No 561 specifically prohibit the use of phones with falsified IMEI codes. It means that if a user informs about the theft or loss of a phone, this phone, as well as all the other devices with the same IMEI code are locked in all mobile communications networks.

It may also occur that you have no idea that the IMEI code of your phone is falsified. This may happen if someone gave this phone to you as a gift or it was bought from an individual. The following IMEI codes are especially risky:

000000000000000

012345678901230

099999001234560

350305260000000

351488203828803
