VoWi-Fi uses an existing Wi-Fi internet connection to call you when your mobile network is not available.

When VoWi-Fi comes in handy

It's the right solution if your location has poor or disrupted mobile network coverage, but you have Wi-Fi network from any operator.

  • Location between two base stations

    If a phone is located at a similar distance between two base stations, it may switch between them frequently, causing temporary interruptions in the connection.

  • In the lowland

    If the property is located in the lowland, it may be difficult for mobile signal waves to travel in a straight line to reach it.

  • Signal-proof construction

    This is caused by the building's structural materials that considerably block the call signal, or from basements where the mobile network does not reach at all.

How to connect VoWi-Fi

VoWi-Fi is currently available on Apple, Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy S25 series phones. VoWi-Fi will soon be available on other Android devices – stay updated with information from device manufacturers.

Follow these steps

    Make sure your phone has the latest version of the software (iOS – at least 17.4, Android – at least 15.0). Update if necessary.

VoWi-Fi – stay connected even where there's no mobile coverage

As we continue to develop our mobile network in Latvia, we are providing our customers with an unprecedented service – VoWi-Fi (Voice over Wi-Fi). This means you can make voice calls even in places without mobile coverage. Comparing VoLTE with VoWi-Fi, the former uses LMT's mobile network for voice calls, while the latter uses any operator's Wi-Fi network.  


VoWi-Fi LMT – benefits everyone

Thanks to the unique VoWi-Fi technology, calls can be made anywhere there is a Wi-Fi wireless network, and high-quality voice communications are possible. However, you must connect your phone to a wireless internet network and have the LMT VoWi-Fi service connected and activated. When you make or receive a voice call, your phone will connect itself to the nearest available Wi-Fi.

VoWi-Fi is particularly useful, for example in logistics centres, warehouses, basements, low lands or between two base stations where voice communication may be interrupted or hampered by unstable mobile network coverage.


Convenient, fast and easy connection and use of the service

There is no need for specialist help, additional antennas or other complicated and time-consuming steps to get started with VoWi-Fi. All you need is a wireless network from any mobile operator and a mobile phone that has the latest software update and supports VoWi-Fi technology.


Connecting to a VoWi-Fi service

Connecting to this service requires only a few steps, which will not take much time. You need to activate VoWi-Fi in your smartphone's call or connection settings. This can be done as follows: 

    iOS smartphones: Settings → Mobile services → Wi-Fi calls → Wi-Fi calls must be activated.

    Android smartphones: Settings → Connection → Wi-Fi calls → Wi-Fi calls must be activated. 

There are two ways to connect to LMT: by visiting nearest Customer Centre or by calling 80768076.

We provide 12 months of free service for each customer (per connection number), after which the standard monthly fee applies. If the service is no longer available for a certain period of time, you can deactivate it on your phone. You can also disconnect the service completely by contacting us on the information line or visiting nearest Customer Centre.

Questions and answers

What's the difference between VoWi-Fi and VoLTE technologies?

VoWi-Fi (Voice over Wi-Fi) allows you to make voice calls over any operator's Wi-Fi network, while VoLTE (Voice over LTE) uses LMT's mobile network.

What are the conditions for the free trial period?

The free trial period (12 months) is available once for each phone number. If the free trial period is interrupted, the standard subscription fee will apply upon reconnection.

Is VoWi-Fi also available abroad?

Currently VoWi-Fi service is available only in the territory of Latvia.

How can I deactivate VoWi-Fi?

In situations where you don't want to receive calls via Wi-Fi (the subscription fee is retained), deactivate VoWi-Fi technology in your phone's settings. It's simple and fast!
